Blanchard Exchange allows you to issue digital credentials when learners achieve course completion. Digital credentials provide a record of a learner’s participation and are verifiable online. Learners can display these credentials on various online properties, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and email signatures.
See below for general information, frequently asked questions, and instructions for issuing badges from Blanchard Exchange.
General Information
Example Credentials
Blanchard offers digital credentials for all our core programs, except Concepts, Overview and Learning Journey variations. While Blanchard Exchange controls when a digital credential is issued, the issuance is ultimately through Credly by Pearson, one of the largest digital credentialing services, based on their network and volume of issued digital credentials.
When a digital credential is attached to a Blanchard Exchange project and a learner achieves course completion, the learner will be sent an email from admin@credly.com containing a link to accept their credential. A reference to the credential will be listed under the Awards tab in the Learner Portal, and a visual indicator will be listed directly on the project within the Corporate Portal to inform administrators that a credential has been issued.
The learner will then be prompted to either establish an account on Credly or to sign into an existing Credly profile to claim their badge.
Badges are issued only when attached to a project, so organizations can opt out of digital credentials by not taking the added action of attaching a badge to a project. Additionally, learners can opt out by not claiming the credentials from Credly even when organizations are issuing badges.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are the default completion criteria to issue a credential? A learner must complete their LAUNCH assignments/prework as well as any applicable fieldwork, with no associated live events pending. Post-training assets such as those in APPLY or Playlists are not required and do not count toward course completion.
-
Can completion criteria be adjusted to change when a digital credential is issued? Yes! Course completion can be adjusted both within individual projects and within course templates. For example, standard live events can be swapped with moderated events, allowing administrators to record successful completion of events in Blanchard Exchange that relate to overall course completion and issuance of credentials. Refer to this tutorial for more information on adjusting completion criteria.
-
What are the benefits of issuing digital credentials? Organizations can increase their brand awareness through the network of their employees who display their digital credentials online. This also allows organizations to show prospective talent that they are investing in their employees by providing them with new and critical skills. Learners benefit by displaying a verifiable credential confirming their participation and achievement. They can gain industry recognition as well as build a community with others who have achieved the same credentials.
-
Are digital credentials translated? Standard credentials are currently offered in American English, German, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, French, and Spanish (Latin America).
Note that credentials are available in the above languages only if Blanchard has translated the accompanying program and materials into the same language.
Attaching standard credentials to Blanchard Exchange projects using these languages will trigger a badge-issuance email from Credly when a learner achieves course completion. The email and badge will also be issued in that language.
Blanchard Exchange projects that use a language other than what is previously listed can still have credentials attached. However, the email and badge will be issued in American English for any non-supported languages.
-
I have a custom program delivered through Blanchard Exchange and wish to create/issue a digital credential. How do I get started? Please connect with your Blanchard contact for more information.
-
I don’t want to issue digital credentials. What do I need to do to opt out? No action is necessary! Issuing credentials requires attaching the credential to your projects. By not attaching the credential to the project, no credential will be issued to the learners enrolled in that project.
- One of my learners has an existing Credly profile under a different email address from their email address in Blanchard Exchange. How do I issue credentials to their alternative email address? Blanchard Exchange can issue credentials only to the email address listed in Blanchard Exchange. However, Credly provides a solution that allows someone with an existing profile to claim credentials assigned to alternative email addresses. Those instructions can be found here.
Instructions
To issue digital credentials, you must attach the credential to the project. It is recommended to attach the credential before learners are at the logical point of course completion. However, credentials can be added after the fact and will be issued to learners who have already achieved course completion.
To attach a credential:
- Open your project
- Under the Overview tab, locate the Awards pane, then select the Attach button (Figure 1)
- On the pop-up window asking for the credential’s location, select the Shared directory
- Locate and select the credential, followed by selecting Add and close; if you are unsure of which credential to attach, please connect with your Blanchard Exchange support contact
Once the credential is attached, any learner who achieves course completion in that project will be issued the credential as noted above.
